Out and About
Depending on if you like mountains or forests, visiting castles or looking for wildlife, there are lots of different places to go. Here are some characteristically Cairngorms highlights to get you started.

To really get a feel for the National Park it’s worth making the effort to get to know the mountains. Drive into the angus glens, to loch muick up to 2,000 ft at Cairngorm Mountain and past the ski areas of the Lecht and Glenshee. And explore Britain’s wild heart on foot, without going deep into the mountains, at each of these places, and many more - like the paths to Derry Lodge , Glen Feshie and Glen Tilt.
Amongst Britain's biggest ancient forests you'll find miles of tracks and paths, world famous Ospreys, ‘the forest village’, an award winning beach and Britain’s top picnic spot; ancient pines and mountain slopes at Glen Tanar and Invereshie, and magnificant views of the Cairngorms from Craigellachie (Aviemore) and Morrone Birkwood (Braemar).
Around the towns and villages there are paths and trails through farmland, along rivers, into the woods and out onto the moors. There's a series of leaflets for paths around communities and more information about each place on the community websites.
National Parks are about people as well as wildlife: what we grow, the houses we live in, the roads we build and the things we like to do. Our history and heritage goes back thousands of years: iron age forts, castles and battles, whisky, forestry, mountains, highland life, holiday homes and tourism.
If you have a passion for the outdoors, you'll like the Cairngorms. If you'd like someone to show you the ropes and share their enthusiasm for the place, find an activity that suits and discover the National Park with the help of a local guide.
