A Park for All

The Cairngorms National Park offers excellent opportunities for people of all backgrounds, interests and abilities to enjoy, learn and benefit from this special place.

One of the guiding principles of the Cairngorms National Park Plan is that the benefits of the Cairngorms National Park and its resources should be accessible to all, regardless of economic, physical or social constraints.

There should be a culture of inclusiveness that seeks to create opportunities for everyone in the Cairngorms National Park, and this can be encouraged by:

  • raising awareness and understanding of the National Park and the opportunities to get involved with groups that may be excluded, particularly young people, people with disabilities and people on low incomes;
  • working with organisations that represent the interests of socially excluded groups to gain a better understanding of their needs;
  • addressing the barriers to inclusion, such as transport, service cost and physical access constraints; and
  • developing social inclusion initiatives that appeal to excluded and equalities groups and encourage their participation.

Equality within the CNPA

The CNPA has an internal Park for All group to oversee the production and implementation of Equality Schemes and Equality Impact Assessments of key policy areas. Equality Schemes are a statutory requirement for all public bodies to prepare and implement. The CNPA's Joint Equality Scheme which includes separate sections for disability, gender and race equality, forms an integral part of the CNPA's wider commitment to promote equality of opportunity in the delivery of its public functions and as an employer. An Action Plan sets out how the CNPA will promote equality and this is updated annually and reviewed every three years. The review of CNPA's Disability Equality Scheme was published on 4 December 2009.

Park for All champions, who can advise and support colleagues in promoting equality in their work, have also been identified throughout the organisation.
