Core Paths Planning

Across Scotland, all of the local authorities and National Park Authorities have been working to identify and designate networks of core paths, which will make it easier for everyone to enjoy the outdoors responsibly. On the 19 March 2010 the Cairngorms National Park Authority board approved the Core Paths Plan for the Cairngorms National Park. The Plan shows a system of paths (core paths) which are, as stated in the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, 'sufficient for the purpose of giving the public reasonable access throughout their area'.

The core paths network stretches to 932km and includes both existing paths, proposed new paths and the River Spey. Implementing the Plan will involve path construction, signage and developing community path leaflets.
