Sound knowledge

Sound knowledge
An exciting new project is underway that uses sound to discover what species live in a particular habitat.
Wildlife recording is usually undertaken by people out on the ground, but it risks disturbing the animals and doesn’t show what is there the rest of the time. Bioacoustics uses specialist equipment to record one minute of sound every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day. This creates a ‘soundscape’ of the habitat and species living there.
