Watersports
Water based recreation includes sailing, swimming, rafting, canoeing and kayaking and all are popular activities carried out on rivers and lochs throughout the National Park.
Throughout Scotland, canoeists and kayakers enjoy a right of access to water (as well as land), as long as they do so responsibly.
The competing interests of fishermen and other water users can prove a challenge for the managers of the rivers. One way to tackle this is to bring both parties together to share common ground.
The Spey Users Group was established over ten years and comprises of representatives of fishing and paddle-sports who meet at least annually to discuss matters of mutual interest and resolve any conflicts that arise as a result of shared use of the river.
