The best local food
There's nothing like the taste of freshly caught fish, beef, venison or lamb that's been roaming in the fabulous landscape or fruit and veg grown in the most fertile fields around...
The farmland around the rivers provides the most fertile agricultural land in the area, but it's not only valuable for the farming industry it supports. Because the Cairngorms National Park farms are relatively small, the low intensity farming that happens here creates habitat and supports lots of plant and wildlife that just wouldn't exist otherwise.
The Cairngorms National Park Authority has worked with the Soil Association Scotland to produce the Cairngorms Food for Life Development Plan. This aims to increase knowledge, consumption and production of local food and become an exemplar model for sustainable food strategy. Development officers are available to assist with community growing, education, distribution, food tourism, demand, supply chain and availability.
