Organising An Outdoor Event
A number of organised outdoor access events take place in the Park every year, bringing enjoyment to many and income to local businesses. Organised events such as sponsored walks, orienteering events, races etc. are covered by access rights and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code provides guidance on the special care that organisers should take when planning such events.
If events are not well managed they can sometimes raise safety concerns, hinder land management operations, harm the environment or detract from other people’s enjoyment of the area. If you are organising an event, it is good practice to liaise with the relevant land managers and the Cairngorms National Park Authority. You need to obtain the permission of the relevant land manager(s) if your event:
- needs new or temporary facilities and services (such as car parking, fencing, signs, litter bins, marked courses or toilets); or
- due to its nature or to the number of participants or spectators, is likely, to an unreasonable extent, to hinder land management operations, interfere with other people enjoying the outdoors or affect the environment.
