Core Paths Planning

Across Scotland, all of the local authorities and national park authorities are working to identify and designate networks of core paths, which will make it easier for everyone to enjoy the outdoors responsibly.  A Core Paths Plan will be produced for each area and the Plans will show a system of paths (core paths) which are, in the words in the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, "sufficient for the purpose of giving the public reasonable access throughout their area."

The core paths network can include both existing paths and waterways and proposed new paths. When the Plan is implemented, work will need to be done to construct and improve some of the core paths and to make them more user friendly for a wider range of activities and abilities. As such the Plan must be realistic as to what can be delivered on the ground.

The Cairngorms National Park Authority has now completed a Draft Core Paths Plan ready for a formal public consultation. Please see the links below to find out more.
